Blanton, Not your Average Joe

Author: jason keen | Files under Player Posts

If I ask up who you would start the first three games of our playoffs if they were to start today I am pretty sure it would go something like this Lee, Hamels, Happ. Well right now I would start Lee, Blanton and Happ and here is why.

After posting a 7.11era through his first 8 starts of this season he and pitching coach Rich Dubee began tinkiering with Joe Blantons mechanics in late May. After watching video when he was playing with the A’s they realized thta Blanton stood with his feet too close together, which changed the angle of his arm to the plate. Well since then, he has constructed 12 quality starts in his next 14 games.
In 6 starts in June, he posted a 3.62era. In 4 starts in July, he posted a 1.21era with the Phillies winning all 4 games. And, in his 3 starts in August he has posted a 2.61era dropping his era from 7.11 in late May to 3.89 today. Since late May he has an 86 qs% and a 2.21era. He also has a 1.29 whip, good for top 25 in the national league.
And in 3 starts last postseason Blanton went 2-0 with a 3.18 era. 2.84 era career
A look at pitching for the post season. Everyone always says pitching wins championships. Well the top5 team pitching whips in the mlb are
1.26 Giants
1.26 Dodgers
1.32 Cardinals
1.33 Atlanta
1.33 Seattle
A look at the Phillies top four starters
1.13 Happ
1.25 Lee
1.29 Blanton
1.33 Hamels
and our bullpens era is 3.89
